3 Incredible Smoothies to Kick-Start Your Morning

Most people barely have enough time to grab a proper breakfast in the morning.  However, a healthy breakfast will kick-start your day and get your mind running sharp and focused.  Breakfast smoothies are a quick and easy way to get your nutrients.  The following shakes are simple and nutritious, and are a great way to get going before you have your breakfast.

Banana & Coffee Madness

Bananas have lots of potassium, which helps repair muscles while maintaining your body’s water balance.  Bananas are also a great source of Vitamin C, Vitamin B and fiber.

Ingredients

2 peeled banana
1 cup low-fat milk
1/2 cup cold black coffee
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 cup ice in a blender

Directions

In a blender put peeled banana, low fait milk, cold black coffee, sugar, and ice into a blender. Cover and blend on high for at least 20 seconds. Makes 1-2 servings.

 

POM Breakfast Smoothie

Pomegranate juice and almonds are full of nutrients and antioxidants. The pomegranate has been shown to help with high blood pressure and diabetes Type II.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup POM wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice
  • 3/4 cup soy or low-fat milk
  • 2 ice cubes
  • 1 large banana
  • 2 tablespoons almonds
  • 3 table spoons protein powder (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon honey or stevia sweetener

Directions

In a blender combine all ingredients. Cover and blend on high for at least 20 seconds (make sure the almonds aren’t visible) then pour into two glasses. Makes 1-2 servings.

 

Blueberry breakfast shake

Blueberries are excellent for the brain.  The compounds within blueberries have been shown to boost brain development and could prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

Ingredients

2/3 cup Frozen or Fresh Blueberries
1/3 cup Apple Juice
1/2 cup Low-Fat Frozen Yogurt or Low-Fat Regular Yogurt
1/4 tsp Ground Cinnamon

Directions

In a blender combine all ingredients. Cover and blend on high for at least 20 seconds (make sure the almonds aren’t visible) then pour into two glasses. Makes 1-2 servings.

 

Remember to make your smoothies delicious so that you’ll have them frequently.  Experiment and do what works for you.
